The aim of the first volume of Keyboards Plus is to provide sufficient material to give beginners a thorough grounding in the basic skills of the keyboard. Most of the music in the book uses the notes learned on pages 2 and 3. This is to give confidence in music reading while concentrating on using both hands and becoming familiar with the features of the keyboard. One-Chord Tunes allow pupils' attention to be directed at the right hand while also gaining an understanding of how single-finger chords work. Rhythm Drills ensure that pupils understand all of the rhythms used in this book Spaced-out pieces are the first to use both hands with chord movement - the music is spaced out in such a way that pupils are allowed to focus their attention on each hand in turn throughout the piece. Tune-builders are the first pieces to fully use both hands in an integrated way. These start as skeleton versions of the full tune, with plenty of time given to be able to change chords appropriately. Further versions flesh out these tunes until the full tune can be played with confidence. Pattern pieces are a further resource; here, much of the melody is made up of a repeating pattern (which sometimes moves up or down in sequence), again allowing more attention to be paid to the left hand at this stage. Concert pieces round off this volume. These are more substantial pieces but no more difficult than the rest of the book, providing excellent material for any occasion. In these pieces the ensemble parts are an important part of the music. Guided Tour No previous musical experience necessary, but right from the start, pupils will be taking part in 'real' music. The five notes learned at the beginning of the book take the pupils right through, ensuring confidence in reading, and fast results.
